Wind shelter, designed and built on site
ARKNAT, Femöre. With Tove Larsson, August Johannesson, Eddie Rud-Petersen and Christine Nordqvist

A wind shelter on the cliffs at Femöre, south of Stockholm, designed and built in two weeks with four others at the ARKNAT festival. We each pitched an idea on site; Tove's, the feeling of moving through the treetops, became our starting point, and everything after that we worked out together, drawing, testing and building as we went. The shelter sits in a small hollow out of the wind. Inside you can sleep, or just have a coffee while it rains and watch the blueberry bushes through the window. A bridge rests on the rock the way the branches do and leads up onto the roof, where you can sit in the shade of the pines and look out to sea. The idea worked as a rule to build by, rather than a fixed shape.

The pines here are wind-bent and twisted, and right where the shelter now stands, their branches rest against the rock for support, as if they're leaning into the wind and peeking over the cliff edge toward the horizon. We wanted our shelter to do the same.
